6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
Seek and apply constructive feedback from supervisors and teachers to improve teaching practices.
Throughout this practicum, I have endeavoured to seek and apply feedback regarding my teaching and planning. Each fortnight as a Kindy team, we would meet and plan for the coming weeks. It was also during this time that I would ask colleagues if they had any feedback for my in terms of my planning or if there was anything that could be altered in regards to my daily teaching. This feedback was mostly verbal but in some cases written feedback was given.
From this feedback, I was able to alter my lessons to suit the needs to students as well as meet the expectations of my colleagues. In this instance, my mentor teacher suggested I add in another syllable learning experience to further develop the skills of those identified as needing support.

After feedback from my colleague regarding adding in a small group syllable experience, I reflected on the session that took place and further experiences were integrated into our planning for future weeks.

I also reached out to seek guidance from my university supervisor in regards to some of the AITSL Teaching Standards that I was unsure of how to address. I wanted to make sure that I was addressing them as well as I could as the standards help to not only inform my teaching practices but also allow me to engage on a professional level with those directly and indirectly related to my current school. My supervisor was able to answer my queries and help put me on the right track.

At Mary MacKillop, Kagan Structures (co-operative learning) are embedded in lessons through out the day. In Kindy, we use a small selection of structures which are aimed to introduce the children to the structures. These opportunities allow the children to be exposed to information in a variety of ways as well as interact with their peers in a positive way so that optimal learning can occur. I gained feedback from my principal which allowed me to reflect on my delivery and how I can implement this strategy in a way that allows for more students involvement.
