Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
3.4 Select and use resources
Demonstrate knowledge of a range of resources, including ICT, that engage students in their learning.
As young children learn by 'doing', it is vital that they participate in hands on, meaningful play experiences that allow for exploration, risk, creativity and trial and error. The experiences should allow for solitary play when needed as well as boisterous, enthusiastic play that entices the students to 'lose' themselves within the play.
These experiences all involved the rhyme 'Humpty Dumpty', Students were given the opportunity to explore through playdough, using Lego to build Humpty's wall and also an oral retell of the rhyme. They were able to engage with the rhyme in a variety of ways and build up their knowledge of the rhyme with both a teacher directed and independent experience.

These three experiences all involved looking at shapes. The investigation table in the middle photo was set up for 2 weeks to encourage the children to look at, make and name various 2D shapes during independent play. The other two activities were part of our numeracy session and allowed the students to investigate and explore the concept of shapes using hands on manipulatives and developing on their interests of transport vehicles.

Another resource that is utilised in the classroom is the IWB. It is used to play songs about concepts and in our morning routine as well as allow the children to interact with various topics during intention teaching time. The students are able to sing, chant or answer questions in a way that has grasped their interest and as the songs change, it will maintain this interest and motivate them to interact with the new concept.
