Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning
3.1 Establish challenging learning goals
Set learning goals that provide achievable challenges for students of varying abilities and characteristics.
A challenging goal for young students in Kindergarten is writing their name. For some students in Kindergarten Gold, they are already able to do this. Therefore, different goals are set for each of the children in order to challenge those who can already write their names and allow those who can not, achieve success as well.
For those who can write their own name legibly, we set a goal for them to use the correct formation. Some students write in upper case letters or still developing lower case formation, therefore the focus for them will be on correct formation, starting position or pencil pressure.
For some students, they are unable to form many or any letters of their name. The goal for them is developing their ability to write pre-writing patterns, pencil grip and hand position on the paper when writing.
After getting samples of their name writing and collating notes on a checklist regarding name writing skills, students are given opportunities to explore various activities and experiences aimed at helping with the identified skills.
