2.6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

Implement teaching strategies for using ICT to expand curriculum learning opportunities for students.

As part of the 21st century curriculum, the students we teach need to be exposed to many opportunities that allow for participation in ICT learning experiences. In Kindergarten, these experiences need to begin with simple, hands on activities that allow for repetition and development of  beginner ICT skills.

As part of the process of engaging with parents, the application Seesaw is used to allow parents to communicate with educators as well as view the progress their child is making in the classroom. To start on their ICT journey, the students will practice logging onto Seesaw by scanning a QR code and then take a picture to upload. This process was one that was practiced from the start of Term 2 and gradually built upon. By starting with scanning the QR code, they were able to begin to focus the camera so that taking a clear picture was easier when it came time to do that.

We also looked at how to hold the I-Pad using a 'hug' hold so that it was nice and safe. We used this grip when moving around the classroom and also used 2 hands when passing the I-Pad to a friend or teacher.
