When learning all about one of our favourite nursery rhymes 'Humpty Dumpty', the children were asked to recite the rhyme and it was recorded for parents to listen to. I also wrote some anecdotal notes about the oral retell regarding tone, pace, ability to recite the words of the rhyme, whether prompting was required or if it was completed individually.
The students in the videos below were identified as needing extensive scaffolding and guidance to complete this task. One was able to sing the tune but has limited audible words, one mouthed the words with the teacher and one didn't want to say any words at all.

This checklist outlined my thoughts on the students as they were asked to recite the rhyme as best they could. I have noted that these students had difficulty with their expressive language skills and either didn't say many words or mouthed the words with the teacher. These students were then placed into a small oral language group where they were given opportunities to practice their expressive and receptive language skills using Diana Rigg oral language resources.
