During investigation and play time (inside and outside), we ensure that all students are adequately supervised as outlined in the NQF ratio guidelines (1:10). We endeavour to position ourselves around the classroom and outside area not only so adequate supervision can occur but also so that meaningful interactions can take place. As the students can visually see educators in all main positions around the classroom/outdoor play area, it allows them feel safe enough to take risks during play and also gives them growing confidence to complete tasks both with teacher direction and independently.
After each inside session the students are invited to help clean up the area in which they were playing in and 'reset' for the next session. A musical timer is put on to give the students a time frame in which to clean up and this works well as it offers visual guidance to those that need assistance. This allows for the students to also rest and 'reset' their minds ready for the next learning experience. Educators are again placed around the room to ensure the clean up is as organised as it can be and guide students who are not helping with the cleaning process.

Students also participate in physically wellbeing and hygiene practices that are encouraged by educators. After play sessions and before eating, they are encouraged to wash their hands (or use hand sanitiser) to prevent germs from spreading throughout the classrooms. Students are shown the correct way to wash their hands and also sing the "Happy Birthday" or "ABC" song whilst washing to ensure the majority of germs have disappeared. By allowing the children to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing in this simple way, it not only gives them the opportunity to gain more independence but they also become more aware of their own personal health and safety.
